Join us in restoring a
3-mile wide prairie corridor
across the Great Plains

Our Goal

Restoration of a prairie habitat corridor
to reverse decades-long species diversity loss,
and to encourage a love of the natural environment
for the benefit of our children, our economy,
and our planet.

Who Are We?

American Prairie Corridor

American Prairie Corridor is dedicated to the creation of a 3-mile-wide segment of mixed grass prairie along the central migratory bird and monarch butterfly flyway.  The proposed corridor will extend from the Rio Grande Valley of Texas to the North Dakota border of Canada while avoiding major population centers.

Only 27% of native tallgrass, mixed grass, and short grass prairies remain in the U.S.  Ground nesting prairie bird species have declined by as much as 40% since 1966, while Bobwhite quail have declined by 85%.  Pollinators (butterflies, bees, moths, and bats) have also seen a 40% or more decline in population since the 1970s.

The American Prairie Corridor can be a vital tool for preserving these embattled species which have been decimated by the loss of native grass and forb species to plowing, overgrazing, and development.

The proposed American Prairie Corridor will encompass almost 3 million acres. As many acres as possible will be acquired through purchase, conservation easement, estate planning, or donation to form a linear connected patchwork across the Great Plains.

American Prairie Corridor is a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation registered in Dallas, Texas.
